Nestled in the beautiful Bridger-Teton National Forest near Jackson, Wyoming, AWLS provides the perfect atmosphere for the accredited educational programs. Established in 1976 with the vision of providing educators with a useful hands-on experience that they can use in the classroom, AWLS has provided a credited wildlife management program for5,175 teachers who reach more than a million students annually, andfun,challenging experiences for 1296 students.
The school offers 5 teacher sessions and 1 student session for ages 16-18. A registration fee of $900 covers meals, lodging and round-trip transportation to and from the Jackson, WY Airport.
Deadline to apply to a local SCI Chapter is April 1, 2010. There is no deadline if you seek sponsorship from the SCIF Education Department or are being self- sponsored.

| This AWLS program is headquartered at the Springbrook Conservation Education Center, located an hour northwest of Des Moines, in Springbrook State Park. The diverse habitats and activities available at the facility make it an ideal location for the program. The agenda is designed for educators of all types to experience the outdoors and take these experiences back to their students. The 5-day program changes each year, but includes orienteering, shooting of all types, wildlife calling, turtle trapping, fishing (lake, stream and pond), canoeing, camping, fish shocking, bird banding, rock climbing, fly tying and archery. Participants may also study aquatic life, reptiles and amphibians, biotechnology, stream table use, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and visits to Rieman Gardens and the Izaac Walton League in Ames. The cost of the program is $250.00 which includes lodging, meals, materials and associated activities. Three graduate credits are available through Drake University for an additional $275.00. |

| Located at the Laurentian Environmental Center, Britt, MN, this program is an advanced wilderness learning experience focused on AWLS Alumni, but open to all outdoors enthusiasts. The program consists of academic discussion, field trips focused on wilderness values and management, wildlife ecology, historic, cultural and economic values, responsible natural resource management and conservation, outdoor skills experiences in canoe trip planning, wilderness navigation, plant and animal identification, survival skills, shooting sports, fishing for walleye and a 4-day fully outfitted and guided canoe trip into the Boundary Waters Wilderness. The fee for this program is $900.00 and includes lodging, meals, the 4-day canoe trip, off-site field trips and professional instruction. Three hours of graduate credit are available through Hamline University at an additional cost of $100.00 per credit. |

Apprentice Hunter Program
Over 2,000 students have attended one of the recognized Apprentice Hunter Programs established for the purpose of introducing young people into hunting, many for the first time.
College Scholarships:
SCIF has provided $303,056 in scholarships since it’s inception to college students who have enrolled in natural resource management or conservation education related fields.
SCIF has two conservation scholarship award programs available. The 2-yr Upper Level and the 4-yr scholarship criteria and applications are below.
